Sattal is a unique, unforgettable spot having cluster of lakes placed amidst the oak forest. A group of pristine mountain lakes nestled within a dense oak forest, Sattal is one of the most stunning of nature's gems in Uttarakhand. Lying on the outskirts of Nainital, it makes for a great tourist destination. There are many unexplored spots and trails that can be explored through delightful nature walks.

As one approach toward Sattal first lake is old Nal Damyanti Lake. On moving ahead there is the ashram of Stanley Johns an American Missionary. Next lake is Panna or Garude lake. As we move down there is a cluster of three lakes, these lakes are Ram,Laxman and Sita lake.


Best Time to Visit

Sattal is an all-year destination but the weather is the best October to June is the best time to visit Sattal.

HOW TO REACH SATTAL

By Air

Nearest airport is the Pantnagar Airport (approx. 60 km), which has regular flights from New Delhi. From the airport, visitors can avail taxis or alternatively hire a car to Sattal. The journey takes about two hours. 

By Road

Sattal is connected by motorable roads to all the major towns and cities. 

By Train

The nearest rail head is Kathgodam, about 33 km away.

It is at 1220 mts above sea level. A pretty deep clean lake with its nine corner is a captivating site.

Neem karoli baba ashram in Kainchi is a beautiful secluded mountain ashram located in Uttarakhand. Temple is devoted to Lord Hanuman adjacent to it is the Kainchi Temple and an Ashram built for devotees.

NAINITAL

Nainital is among the most visited hill stations of India. The Nainital lake popularly know as Naini Lake is the major attraction of the region is pear-shaped lake and is approx. two miles in circumference, surrounded by mountains. 

Bhimtal lake

BHIMTAL

Bhimtal is the largest among a cluster of freshwater lakes huddled in the mountains of Uttarakhand. Bhimtal lake has an island at its centre. 

KHURPATAL

Khurpatal is a small hamlet frequented by the tourists for its pleasant climate and a beautiful lake with crystal clear water. For angling or fishing, this is the right place.

CORBETT NATIONAL PARK

The Jim Corbett national park covers an area of 521 Sq. Kms.  The park occupies portions of Kalagarh and Ramnagar forest divisions.

RAMGARH

Ramgarh is known as “Fruit bowl of Kumaon” for a variety of Himalayan fruits. Its famous for spectacular views of the Himalayan ranges.

BOATING & KAYAKING

One can enjoy the beauty of the lake while kayaking or boating in its blue-green waters. There are a number of adventure clubs here that offer boats and kayaks for hire.

BIRD WATCHING

Sattal is home to many of local and migratory birds. One can even hire local guides to spot some of them and photograph the winged beauties. Enjoy their beauty as you walk around the lakes.

VISIT TO BUTTERFLY MUSEUM

The exotic Butterfly Museum lies in the Jones Estate, a little uphill from the lake. It is the major tourist attraction of Sattal. The museum houses around 2,500 species of butterflies and around 1,100 types of insects. The museum was set up by Federic Smetacek, who was called the butterfly man.
